Psalm 54
Prayer for Defense against Enemies.
For the music director; on stringed instruments. A 54:0 Possibly Contemplative; or Didactic; or Skillful PsalmMaskil of David, 54:0 1 Sam 23:19; 26:1when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, “Is David not keeping himself hidden among us?”
1Save me, God, by Your name,
And 54:1 Lit judgevindicate me by Your power.
2Hear my prayer, God;
Listen to the words of my mouth.
3For strangers have risen against me
And violent men have sought my 54:3 Or soullife;
They have not set God before them. Selah
4¶Behold, God is my helper;
The Lord is 54:4 Lit as those who sustainthe sustainer of my soul.
5 54:5 LXX; MT The evil will returnHe will pay back the evil to my enemies;
54:5 Or Put to silenceDestroy them in Your 54:5 Or truthfaithfulness.
6¶54:6 Or With a voluntary offeringWillingly I will sacrifice to You;
I will praise Your name, Lord, for it is good.
