Psalm 56
Pleading for Help and Grateful Trust in God.

1Be gracious to me, God, for a man has 56:1 Or snapped attrampled upon me;
56:1 Or A fighting manFighting all day long he oppresses me.
2My enemies have trampled upon me all day long,
For 56:2 Or many are fightingthey are many who fight proudly against me.
3 56:3 Lit The dayWhen I am afraid,
56:3 Or I am one who putsI will put my trust in You.
4In God, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere 56:4 Lit fleshmortals do to me?
5All day long they distort my words;
All their 56:5 Or purposesthoughts are against me for evil.
6They 56:6 Or stir up strifeattack, they lurk,
They watch my 56:6 Lit heelssteps,
As they have waited to take my 56:6 Lit soullife.
7Because of their wickedness, will there be an escape for them?
In anger make the peoples fall down, God!
8¶You have taken account of my 56:8 Or wanderingsmiseries;
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book?
9Then my enemies will turn back on the day when I call;
This I know, 56:9 Or becausethat God is for me.
10In God, whose word I praise,
In the Lord, whose word I praise,
11In God I have put my 56:11 Or trust without feartrust, I shall not be afraid.
What can mankind do to me?
12Your vows are binding upon me, God;
I will render thanksgiving offerings to You.
13For You have saved my soul from death,
56:13 Or Have You not deliveredIndeed my feet from stumbling,
So that I may walk before God
