Psalm 64
Prayer for Rescue from Secret Enemies.
For the music director. A Psalm of David.
1Hear my voice, God, in my 64:1 Or concerncomplaint;
Protect my life from dread of the enemy.
2Hide me from the secret discussion of evildoers,
From the restlessness of the workers of injustice,
3Who have sharpened their tongues like a sword.
They aimed bitter speech as their arrows,
4To shoot 64:4 Lit infrom concealment at the innocent;
Suddenly they shoot at him, and do not fear.
5They make firm for themselves an evil 64:5 Lit matterpurpose;
They 64:5 Lit tell oftalk of setting snares secretly;
They say, “Who can see them?”
6They 64:6 Or search outdevise injustices, saying,
“We are 64:6 Lit completeready with a well-conceived plot”;
For the 64:6 Or inward partinward thought and the heart of a person are 64:6 Or unsearchabledeep.
7¶But God 64:7 Or shotwill shoot an arrow at them;
Suddenly 64:7 Or they were wounded; lit their wounds occurredthey will be wounded.
8So 64:8 Or they make their tongue a stumbling for themselvesthey 64:8 Or madewill make him stumble;
Their own tongue is against them;
All who see them will shake their heads.
9Then all people 64:9 Or fearedwill fear,
And they 64:9 Or declaredwill declare the work of God,
And 64:9 Or consideredwill consider 64:9 Lit His workwhat He has done.
10The righteous person will be glad in the Lord and take refuge in Him;
And all the upright in heart will boast.
