15They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them, “Do not do as they do.”
15They rejected His statutes and His covenant which He made with their fathers, and His warnings which He 17:15 Lit warnedgave them. And they followed 17:15 Lit the non-existentidols and became empty, and followed the nations that surrounded them, about which the Lord had commanded them not to do as they did.

Then they themselves became worthless. They followed the example of the nations around them. They did it even though the Lord had ordered them not to. He had said, “Do not do as they do.”
