Hebrews 6:16

16People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument.

16For people swear an oath by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath serving as confirmation is an end of every dispute.

16People promise things by someone greater than themselves. Giving your word makes a promise certain. It puts an end to all arguing.

16When someone makes a strong promise, he uses the authority of a person who is greater than himself. This shows that he will certainly obey his promise. Then nobody can argue about it.
