17“Everyone is senseless and without knowledge;

every goldsmith is shamed by his idols.

The images he makes are a fraud;

they have no breath in them.

17Every person is stupid, devoid of knowledge;

Every goldsmith is put to shame by his 51:17 Or imagesidols,

For his cast metal images are deceitful,

And there is no breath in them.

17All mankind is stupid, devoid of knowledge;

Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols,

For his molten images are deceitful,

And there is no breath in them.

17Every man has become stupid and brutelike, without knowledge [of God];

Every goldsmith is shamed by the cast images he has made;

For his molten idols are a lie,

And there is no breath [of life] or spirit in them.
