Luke 20:28

28“Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.

28and they questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if 20:28 Lit someone’s brothera man’s brother dies, 20:28 Lit havingleaving a wife, and he is childless, that his brother is to 20:28 Lit takemarry the wife and raise up children 20:28 I.e., as his brother’s heirfor his brother.

28and they questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should marry the wife and raise up children to his brother.

28and they questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us [a law that] if a man’s brother dies, leaving a wife and no children, his brother should 20:28 The purpose of this was to carry on the family line and keep property within the family.marry the wife and raise children for his brother. [Deut 25:5, 6]

28“Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us about a man’s brother who dies. Suppose the brother leaves a wife but has no children. Then the man must marry the widow. He must provide children to carry on his dead brother’s name.
