Matthew 3:14

14But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

14But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I have the need to be baptized by You, and yet You are coming to me?”

14But John tried to prevent Him [vigorously protesting], saying, “It is I who need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”

14But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

14But Iohn earnestly put him backe, saying, I haue neede to be baptized of thee, and commest thou to me?

14But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”

14But John tried to stop him. So he told Jesus, “I need to be baptized by you. So why do you come to me?”

14But John tried to stop him. He said to Jesus, ‘I should ask you to baptize me. You should not ask me to baptize you.’

14but John was forbidding Him, saying, “I have need to be immersed by You—and You come to me?”
