Philippians 1:17

17The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.

17but the former preach Christ [insincerely] out of selfish ambition [just self-promotion], thinking that they are causing me distress in my imprisonment.

17The former, however, preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can add to the distress of my chains.

17but the other proclaim Christ of faction, not sincerely, thinking to raise up affliction for me in my bonds.

17But the others of loue, knowing that I am set for the defence of the Gospell.

17but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the Good News.

17But the others preach about Christ only to get ahead. They preach Christ for the wrong reasons. They think they can stir up trouble for me while I am being held by chains.

17Those other people speak about Christ because they want to seem important. They do not really want to help people. They just want to cause trouble for me while I am here in this prison.

17and the other out of love, having known that I am set for defense of the good news:
