2 Samuel 12:14

14But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for12:14 An ancient Hebrew scribal tradition; Masoretic Text for the enemies of the Lord, the son born to you will die.”

14However, since by this deed you have shown utter disrespect for the 12:14 Lit enemies of the Lord (a euphemistic reference to God); DSS word of the LordLord, the child himself who is born to you shall certainly die.”

14However, because by this deed you have given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born to you shall surely die.”

14Nevertheless, because by this deed you have given [a great] opportunity to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme [Him], the son that is born to you shall certainly die.”

14Nevertheless, because by this deed you have shown utter contempt for the word of the Lord,12:14 DSS; MT you have brought utter contempt from the enemies of the Lord the son born to you will surely die.”

14But you have dared to show great disrespect for the Lord. So the son who has been born to you will die.”
